Patrol Gear

PATROL GEAR (Part 1)

In the world, and even in the country that we live in, our spiritual enemies never really declare a truce. Therefore, we need to stay ready and alert for battle. Such as no soldier goes to battle, without the proper battle gear, no scouts can effectively patrol without the proper tools and attire, even. The same likewise applies to us, who feel stirred to watch in prayer over our nation.

Before we do any patrolling (praying prophetically through the news), from a place of intimacy with the Lord (of Him knowing us, and us progressively and experientially knowing Him), we are to be empowered with strength from His boundless might. In that place of intimacy, we are to out on His whole armor (not just a part of it, but the whole) to stand against all of the enemy’s strategies and deceits. (Personally, for a year or so now, the Lord has been teaching me the importance of doing this for my daily battles, especially when engaging in a battlefield in the mind). The full armor arms us to respond and do what any crisis demands, without being shaken or moved out of place.

In Ephesians 6, we are given a manual of what to put on in sequence: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, sandals of the gospel of peace, shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. Interestingly, the belt of truth and the sword of the Spirit both pertain to the Word of God. In the spiritual battlefield, the importance of being grounded in the Word can never be undermined. It is our compass as we navigate, enabling us to stand our ground and move strategically.

As we put on the gear, we are first instructed to stand and hold our ground (v14). This means we should refuse to be pushed backwards and hence continue our beliefs in an argument. Even in the face of repeated attacks, we will not be intimidated. We can stand our ground because our beliefs are grounded on the Truth: Jesus, Himself, the Word who became flesh and His words, both logos and rhema.

Even as we patrol (that is, pray prophetically through the news, in the context of this FB page), we may see persistent negative reports. We can hear babble of cynical talk from those who do not believe in God and even from those who do but merely subscribe to a form of godliness, but deny His power. The question here is, which truth or reality do we choose to subscribe: that of earth or Heaven?

The belt of truth represents the word of God, the logos and rhema word, as well as the Word who became flesh, Jesus. Interestingly, we are instructed to tighten it in our loins. I was asking God: why should the truth be tightened in the loins?

What is in the loins? The loins is the place of our body where organs of pleasure and reproduction are located. The Lord wants us to tighten our pleasure with His person and His word. We are to delight ourselves in Him.

Tightening the belt of Truth in our loins is also a prequisite to bearing fruit. We are to be attached to the vine, as we are mere branches, who cannot bear fruit, by ourselves.

Chikiting Patrol

Today, the Lord reminded me of a show called Chikiting Patrol, which I used to watch when I was a kid. It was a show about kids reporting the news with a light, even bubbly, tone.

As I was asking the Lord, why the Holy Spirit brought to mind a show which I have not even heard of for decades now, He impressed this upon me: to function well as a watchman or watchwoman with childlike faith.

The word Patrol is a noun and a verb, which has the following meanings:

It was qualified by the word “chikiting” which is an informal, yet commonly used word for “child”.

The Lord then impressed upon me that such is the charge for when functioning as a watchman or watchwoman for the nation: view the news from the eyes of a child. Even when the road ahead seems long, hard and even dark, hold on to childlike faith. After all, we are children, beloved sons and daughters, pleading with the Father.

Do not underestimate such childlike faith as we declare God’s will to be done in the Philippines, as it is in Heaven. Amidst reports of the news, we are to gurgle praise, which God, Himself perfects. Such praise will give us strength to withstand and push back the darkness. It will silence the enemy and even babble of those who do not believe the power of God.

As we do, we hold on to this declaration of authority in Psalms 8:2

Out of the mouths of babes and unweaned infants You have established strength because of Your foes, that You might silence the enemy and the avenger. (In the Amplified)

Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy talk, and silence atheist babble. – Psalm 8:2 MSG

In Matthew 21:15-16, Jesus referred to such as praise, which God, Himself, perfects.

But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’ ?” Matthew 21:15‭-‬16 NKJV

Shine and Push Back the Darkness

The atmosphere and times around us may be dark, yet as followers of Christ, we know that were born for times like these. When darkness covers the earth, that’s our cue to rise and shine! We are not blind in the darkness for God’s word is the lamp unto our feet, the guide unto our path. Carrying this lamp, we diffuse His light even to the darkest corners, with no fear, for He is with us.

Notwithstanding what we can see all around, may our focus remain on the One True Light, that we may merely reflect His light. With the right focus, we simply give worth to what He gives worth to: lives that He, Himself, became flesh and died for. All the more that we need to soak in His presence so we can continually keep sight of Him as our vision, beacon and guide.

From our quiet moments with the King, we feel His heartbeat. Our hearts breaking for what breaks His, we rise out of apathy and are silent any longer. Led by His Spirit, we speak up in righteous indignation and provide an alternative, balanced voice. From the ramparts of His watchtower, we speak and decree His word. As we speak, by His grace, may eyes be opened, just as He has graciously opened our eyes. As we speak His name, His will, we change the atmosphere of this nation.

We continue to pray and decree unceasingly, for we know that this warfare is not waged against flesh and blood, but against principalities. We pray and speak from a position of victory, merely enforcing the King’s edicts, with full trust in the finished work of Christ’s death and resurrection. As we speak from His voice with the authority He has imparted to us as His sons and daughters, we simply decree to principalities that His will shall be done on earth as it is in Heaven. In so doing, we claim His promises for our country’s glorious destiny to come to pass. And this is how, amidst dark times, we become catalysts of revival for our nation, even in the streets.

Love to Unite the Body in Truth and Spirit

Truth without power is legalism.
Power without truth is superstition.
Love without truth is licentiousness.
Truth without love is brutality.
Power without love can be reckless.

Saw this posted on FB and couldn’t help but react, but will just do so here.

I grew up in a traditional conservative evangelical Protestant church. I was once a skeptic too…in my teens, I used to brand my mom, who fellowshipped with charismatic Christians and who was exposed to the prophetic, as fanatic. Even then though, I loved God, but was a baby Christian. But God has His way of gently opening my eyes to the reality of His naturally supernatural ways. It wasn’t because someone told me and rebuked me of having a religious spirit. It was when I heard God’s still small voice gently tell me, “I’m a supernatural God”.

I now love God’s supernatural ways, but I have a heart for those people who are not open to them….It’s not that they’re less of a Christian than I am. They do love the abiding presence of God. Sadly, though they are missing out on the kabod, God’s glorious presence. What I find sad, as well is that sometimes the evangelicals think that charismatics are not Christians, sometimes vice-versa…It grieves my heart because they are missing out on the power of unity of the body of Christ, and how one can learn from the other.

From what I’ve observed, charismatics generally are mighty in power. They move powerfully in spiritual gifts, effortlessly at that. However, a number, at times, seem to be more awed with the signs and wonders than the Source of the signs and wonders, who Himself is the ultimate sign and wonder. Some, sadly seem to pursue the gifts more than they pursue the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Yes, they easily enter into the Presence of the Lord, but without diligent study of Scripture can be quick to waver in times of testing. In general (not saying all, just in general), charismatics need more Truth to balance the power.

On the other hand, evangelicals tend to aspire for godliness, but deny the power thereof. Yes, most are students of the Word, but only their minds are edified, the Word has to sink into their hearts. Sadly a number move in the flesh, instead of in the Spirit and strive instead of resting in the Lord. Yes, they pursue the fruit of the Holy Spirit, but sadly fail to desire the gifts of the Spirit. They miss out on experiencing God in His glory. Their lives tend to lack power, hence they are unable to maximize their impact. They need more of the Holy Spirit in their lives to experience more of His power.

These are observations are merely based on the so-called “general rule”. There are, of course, exceptions to such general rule. And one day, by God’s grace, the exceptions will become the general rule. This lady, Beth Moore, is among such exceptions. So are folks in LGI. I guess I have become an exception to the general rule, as well.

I have been guilty of displaying weaknesses of both. But God’s grace continues to correct, balance and empower. Always, we just need to be teachable with a thirst for more of Him and to draw nearer to Him. We are, after all, His work in progress.

Labels, such as regarding the other as having a religious spirit or the other as fanatic will not help. For all we know, some of the so-called religious spirits are just Bereans who want to know if something supernatural indeed has basis in the Word…they approach with caution, test the spirits, knowing that the enemy can also counterfeit. In such case, they just need to be pointed to Scripture…the Truth shall set them free. 😊

Labels, tend to fan the divide between Charismatics / Pentecostals and Evangelicals. Labels are not loving. Both Charismatics / Pentecostals and Evangelicals need more love for each other. Love, I believe is the glue that will bind. No wonder, Paul says that without love, we are nothing. But with love, we can do this:

But love cannot be manufactured by ourselves. Love, itself, is a powerful supernatural force. Love cannot be counterfeited. We can only receive it from Love, Himself, and overflow that we may have some to give away as we rest in the Father’s presence. May we bask more in His love.

A Whole New World

There are times when I feeling that foreboding, but just brushed it off. In my quiet moments with the Lord, He would remind me that He knows the plans He has for me – to give me a hope and a future, that surely His goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, that He works all things for my good and that I shall be the head and not the tail (reminding myself, even as I type). Then this word. ❤

thank You, Lord! I know You are doing a new thing in my midst. And just like all of Your creation, it is good.
